说的可疑

　　Doubts on interpretations

　　作品是艺术观念的物质载体，是艺术家心、情、性、智的具体呈现，但心灵与物质之间存在一个转化的问题，在转化的过程中艺术作品不可避免的与艺术家的心、情、性、智产生距离，因此“说”是可疑的，“说”的过程既是阐释的过程也是误导的过程。

　　A piece of painting is the material carrier of an artistic notion and the demonstration of the artist’s spirit, passion, personality and intellectuality. Paintings are the result of a material conversion from spiritual notions. During the process of conversion, it is unavoidable to prevent any deviation of the artistic works from the artist’s original spirit, passion, personality or intellectuality. Therefore, interpretations of artistic works are doubtful. In this sense, the process of interpretation is both a process of explication and a process of misleading.

　　听的误差

　　Misunderstanding in appreciation

　　我们都希望自己的作品能得到理解与还原，但解释不是作品的组成部分，“听”是由听者来完成的，谁也代替不了谁的耳朵。而听者是自我尺度的驾驭者，有更大的主动性和自由性，这就预示了“说”、“听”之间产生误差的必然性。正如诗人们所说，诗歌是不能解释的，因为诗歌恰恰就是在这一过程中失去的部分。或许画也一样，当我完成以上的转述，其实也已或多或少的歪曲了它。

　　We all hope that our works could be appreciated in its correct sense and construed in line with our original intention. However, interpretation is not a part of the artistic works. Comprehension of the interpretation is all done by an individual appreciator on his own. No one else or nothing else can take the place of his own eyes and ears. Since an appreciator sets his own assessment criteria for artistic works, he possesses more initiative and enjoys more freedom in artistic appreciation, which contributes to the inevitability of the distance between interpretation and appreciation. Just like the case of poetry, said by poets, poetry cannot be interpreted because what matters in a poem is exactly what is lost in the process of its interpretation. Maybe that is also true of painting. Now when I have finished the above remarks, I may have concluded, more or less, a process of distortion of my original intent for my paintings.
